Notes: taxonomic identity uncertain; although previous authors (Stuxberg, Wood) identified Lithobius spinipes Say, 1821 with Lithobius forficatus (Linné, 1758) or Lithobius americanus Newport, 1844 (= Lithobius forficatus Linné, 1758), Bollmann (1893 - Bull. U.S. national Museum, 46: 146) consider Lithobius spinipes as a valid species, identical to Lithobius transmarinus L. Koch, 1862 and Lithobius mordax L. Koch, 1862, see also Chamberlin (1925 - Bull. Mus. Comp. Zoology, 57: 473, 478) and Kevan (1983 - Canadian Journal of Zoology, 61 (12): 2938-2955); non Harpolithobius spinipes Folkmanová, 1958
